movie night: Straw Dogs (1971)

Straw Dogs was one of the most *TENSE* movies i have ever seen.  Matt, the movie nerd, informed me that the director is known for his Westerns and this movie is laid out in a typical “Western” showdown type format.  The movie is quiet but the entire time I wanted to scream at everyone for their reactions to things but at the same time you’re not sure if you would have handled anything any differently in the same situation.  It also reminds you why crazy over-emotional people with hot tempers (like me) are not necessarily as scary as the creepy, quiet dude that takes everything in stride until he snaps and goes ballistic.  I’ve always been a fan of Dustin Hoffman’s subtle ways.  There is a part in this movie that I had to cover the kitty’s eyes so they wouldn’t have nightmares….Highly recommend!  7.5/10 stars!

Dustin Hoffman plays a regular American mathematician, who gets into some trouble with local bullies. He is made fun of and then his wife is raped. When they attack his home, he fights back. His outbreak of violence is extreme.
